Just recently ran into what seemed like a very perplexing issue: when trying to edit an item in a SharePoint list while in datasheet mode, I was getting a pesky error "The selected cells are read-only". The error was preventing me from making any kind of changes to the content of the items in the datasheet, even though I was using a Farm Admin account. After a few hours of researching on google, finally came up with a solution that I'm posting here in hopes of saving others the search time.
Simply, change the view to Approve/Reject, then go to datasheet mode, and edit in buk from here. Hope this helps!
